Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition in which there is pain in various parts of the body. This pain is long-lasting and located in the muscles and connective tissue.

Symptoms

The pain you experience persists for more than three months without explanation. The symptoms below may occur:

  • Pain
  • Stiffness
  • Long-lasting fatigue
  • Loss of muscle strength
  • Sleep problems
  • Mood problems
  • Attention or memory problems

Cause

In fibromyalgia, there are no abnormalities found in your muscles or connective tissue. X-ray examinations and/or blood tests will therefore show nothing abnormal. Therefore, the cause is unknown and this makes the condition difficult to diagnose. Often a rheumatologist will recognize the symptoms and can rule out other conditions.

Rehabilitation program

A special rehabilitation program has been developed for fibromyalgia. This program takes place in groups of up to five people. It continues at set times and runs over a period of four months. Prior to the rehabilitation, a thorough screening takes place to create a plan tailored to your needs and complaints. You learn to better organize your life so that effort and relaxation follow each other. We strive to achieve these goals in order to improve your body functions and eventually reduce your complaints and limitations. The goal of rehabilitation is to improve general functioning and adopt a healthy lifestyle.

The rehabilitation program includes psychological and relaxation sessions in addition to exercise therapy. The fibromyalgia treatment plan is part of the chronic pain treatment program.
