Orthopantogram
Using a special RX (Cone Beam) device that rotates around the face, X-rays are taken of the teeth and jaws.
Course of the examination
The examination lasts 20 seconds and is not painful. No anesthesia is needed.
- The nurse will accompany you to the examination room and will assist you during the imaging.
- The device with the X-ray tube and detector rotates around your head, so that the whole of your teeth can be imaged in one X-ray. You are not allowed to move your head, which is why it is fixed.
- In one view, the radiologist can see on this picture if there is anything abnormal to see near the jaw, such as any ingrowth or deterioration of the jaw. Any salivary stones present can also be visualized on an orthopantogram.
- In addition, we can also take pictures of the jaw heads. Here, the device also rotates around the head and pictures are often taken with the mouth open and closed.
- After the examination, we can make 3D reconstructions on a workstation.
The radiologist who performed the examination makes an initial interpretation of the images during the examination. After the final interpretation, the radiologist sends a report to the doctor or dentist who requested the examination. Only this doctor can discuss the results with you.
This examination is by appointment only. Please always bring your identity card, your doctor's prescription and any previous radiological examinations with you.
