Professional secrecy on your file

Your patient file contains the necessary nursing and medical data to ensure optimal care and treatment. Of course, your patient file is strictly confidential and only the doctors, nurses and paramedics involved in your care have access to your data.

Administrative staff may have access to part of your record for administrative purposes. Each of these individuals is also strictly bound by a duty of professional secrecy or discretion.

Your patient file may be the subject of an (informational) study*. We always ensure that your privacy is respected when your file is consulted for such studies.

* By a study is meant: the consultation of data from existing (patient) records, medical records or administrative records or files and the processing of their data purely for personal use. The data are always anonymized when they are processed to be communicated to a third party or when their processing is published.

For quality improvement purposes, it is possible that an internal or external auditor may view your patient record. The auditors are bound by their duty of confidentiality in the same way as the healthcare providers themselves. If you prefer that your patient data not be viewed in the context of quality audits, you can notify the admissions department and we will of course respect this.

Shared medical record

As part of a medical partnership (nexuzhealth) with a number of other Flemish hospitals, your patient file will be shared with your healthcare providers at these hospitals. Privacy rules are also strictly guaranteed and respected in this partnership. You can find a list of participating hospitals at www.mynexuzhealth.be

Because these hospitals work with a shared file, you do not have to repeat in one hospital what already happened in another hospital. Also, your attending physician will always have a complete picture of your health condition. This benefits quality care, avoids double examinations and makes referrals from one nexuzhealth hospital to another easier.

The shared medical record is highly secure. Only healthcare providers involved in your treatment have access to your record. This means that if you are not treated at hospital X, your data cannot be accessed at that hospital either. Only when you are treated at one of the nexuzhealth partners will your file be accessible to the involved healthcare providers at that hospital.

You can read more about the implementation of mynexuzhealth in Sint-Trudo Hospital under your file.

The national eHealth project

Health data exchange

The government launched secure communication channels that allow all health care providers currently involved in your treatment to consult your medical data. Hospitals must ensure that essential information from your local patient record is available through this system. This exchange of health data happens only when you give your consent to it once. You can do this at the registration desk.

You can also give, withdraw or exclude certain health care providers from the right to access via www.myhealth.be online at any time.

Informing your family doctor

Your family doctor will be informed of your admission unless you request otherwise. In that case we ask you to inform the reception department.
