Dutch patients

Do you have Dutch nationality? Then always contact your health insurer before admission. The insurer must give permission for your treatment abroad (Belgium). If you do not do this, you run the risk of having to pay your invoice in full yourself.

Your Dutch health insurer will provide you:

Either a valid guarantee declaration

Only if the health insurer states on the guarantee declaration that the hospital may settle the bill directly with them, the corresponding invoice will also be sent directly to the health insurer.
For the other guarantee statements (most), the hospital will offer the costs first to the patient. In this case, you must deposit the full amount of the estimate 10 working days prior to the procedure into the hospital's account as an advance, stating your name, the doctor's name and the date of the procedure in the notice. You can then present this to your health insurance company upon receipt of the invoice.

Or an original and valid form S2

For processing through the S2 form, the hospital sends the invoice to a Belgian insurance company. Trough this procedure there always remains an own share to pay. 

The invoice with your own share (co-payment) and any costs of the single room will be sent to your home address.
