Back and neck school

The back and neck school rehabilitation program is a long-term customized program for people with back and or neck pain that is chronic, the result of an injury or post-operative. You can attend this program only after referral from a physician.

Program

The course includes both physical therapy and theoretical classes to provide you with the best possible guidance. Through an intensive multidisciplinary approach to a variety of back and neck problems, we offer the following during this pathway:

  • Information on general back training principles
  • Practical tips on back-saving techniques
  • A customized rehabilitation schedule including strengthening exercises for the muscles connecting the vertebrae and stretching exercises (including home exercises)
  • Ergonomic training
  • Psychological information sessions on pain, relaxation, sleep, fretting and stress (if necessary)
  • Work resumption and reorientation

Purpose

The aim is to set out together to not only improve physically but also to gain new insights. After referral by our doctors, you will be scheduled for an initial comprehensive intake with our physical therapist and occupational therapist. As an accredited back and neck school, we also ask that you complete a psychological questionnaire.

When do you qualify?

This course is suitable for you if you have nonspecific neck pain or back and lower back pain symptoms that persist for more than six weeks. Also, within the three months after corrective spine surgery, this course can help your recovery.

Practical questions

You get a prescription from the doctor. With this prescription you can sign up with the therapists at the back and neck school. You can find us in the outpatient rehabilitation center (block A) of the hospital.

Specific reimbursement is provided for 36 sessions over a period of up to 6 months. For this reimbursement, you must meet the inclusion criteria of the course. This back and neck school is recognized by the Occupational Disease Fund.
