Geriatric rehabilitation

Hospitalization is always a profound event later in life. We work together to recover as quickly as possible, allowing a return to your home situation.

Pathway

A rehabilitation trajectory is always adapted to your personal situation. You will be supported in multiple discisplines to achieve the best result. The care providers involved will discuss your progress together and adjust the trajectory where necessary. On request, you can get a fall screening to see how big your fall risk is and how you can reduce it.

Physical Therapy

You will be motivated to participate in active and functional rehabilitation both in group and alone. We strive to help you achieve or maintain as much independence as possible and thus the best quality of life.

If you need aids, you will be taught how best to use them. In the geriatrics department, you can attend group exercise sessions in addition to your individual program. During group gymnastics, the focus is on functional exercises, balance, endurance, transfer exercises, etc. This group therapy increases motivation and provides social contact.

Occupational Therapy

Sessions with the occupational therapist focus on returning to the home situation. There is also extra attention to possible fall risk and general deterioration. For example, you learn safe ways to get in and out of bed or car, how to walk with an assistive device and self-care is promoted.

You can follow motivational activities in the day room that focus on activation, fun and relaxation. These sessions are always done in groups and may have a different focus point depending on the patients present.

Speech therapy

The speech therapist helps you with speech and language disorders and helps look for possible aids around communication. Your cognitive functions are tested and trained. If you suffer from swallowing disorders , you will receive nutritional counseling and help with practicing techniques to eat and drink safely.

Fall Prevention

Within our hospital there is a great alertness to prevent falls. When you have more limited mobility, the risk of falling is greater. In the following ways we try to reduce this risk as much as possible during your stay:

  • learning to use aids correctly
  • put everything within reach (the call bell, your glasses, phone, ...)
  • put the bed in the lowest position
  • wearing the right shoes
  • steps, mobilizing and muscle-strengthening exercises
